Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²)
Advancing low-carbon technologies from research on Jurong Island to real-world deployment

A*STAR Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²) develops science and technology solutions to support the transition towards a more sustainable, low-carbon chemicals and energy sector.
Its research spans key areas in decarbonisation and specialty chemicals, including low-carbon hydrogen, ammonia and low-carbon fuel safety, CO₂ capture, CO₂-to-X technologies, and sustainable specialty chemicals and bio-technologies.
A key focus of ISCE² is translating research into real-world impact. Beyond scientific discovery, the institute develops and validates technologies, supports scale-up and piloting, and works with industry, public agencies and research partners to advance promising solutions towards commercialisation and deployment. Its capabilities include Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), process engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), high-throughput experimentation and digital chemistry, helping to assess sustainability and commercial viability while accelerating experimentation, optimisation and scale-up. These support the development of new processes, products and pathways that can contribute to emissions reduction, enable new value chains and support more sustainable industrial development.
ISCE² will also host the Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT³), a shared testbed designed to help companies test, validate and demonstrate emerging low-carbon technologies under industry-relevant conditions. By providing shared infrastructure and operational support, LCT³ is intended to help de-risk scale-up, reduce the time, cost and resources required to establish pilots, and accelerate the journey from laboratory innovation towards commercial deployment.
